Housing

Valuable insights into finding the perfect place to live in Spain, from rental options to buying property.

The easiest ways to find a house or flat in Spain are through online property websites like Idealista, Fotocasa, and Habitaclia, along with using social media platforms and local real estate agencies. If you’re already in Spain, walking around neighborhoods and networking can also help you find rental properties.

Online Property Portals

  • Idealista.com: One of the biggest property platforms in Spain, with extensive listings for both rentals and sales.

  • Fotocasa.es: Another well-known website with a user-friendly interface for finding apartments and houses.

  • Habitaclia: Offers both rental and purchase options, especially useful for finding places in specific regions.

Social Media and Facebook Groups

Many expats and locals post rental listings or available properties in various Facebook groups or social media platforms. You can find groups like "Renting apartments in Spain" or "Expats in [City]". Also, Facebook Marketplace is a growing platform for rentals, where you can find listings directly from landlords or other tenants.

Real Estate Agencies

If you want more personalized help, you can reach out to a local real estate agency. They can provide a list of available properties and help you navigate the rental or buying process. Most cities and regions have local agencies that can offer great advice and listings.

Local Classifieds

In Spain, many locals use Milanuncios (milanuncios.com) to advertise available rentals or properties for sale.

Look for "Se Alquila" Signs

In many Spanish cities, it’s still common to find "Se Alquila" (for rent) or "Se Vende" (for sale) signs posted outside properties.

Apps for House-Hunting

Wallapop, Fotocasa, Idealista.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Rental deposits. In Spain, landlords typically require a deposit (usually one or two months’ rent).

  • Proof of income. Be prepared to show proof of income (a work contract or bank statements) when applying for a rental.

  • Utilities. Clarify whether utilities (water, electricity, internet) are included in the rent or if you’ll pay for them separately.

  • Contract. Make sure to carefully read your rental agreement and be aware of the terms (length of lease, renewal options, etc.).
