_________________________________________________
If you stay in Spain for more than three months, you need to register as a resident at the local Foreigners Office (Oficina de Extranjería) or the local police station (Comisaría de Policía) to obtain the residency certificate (Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión).
This certificate proves that you are a legal resident of Spain and will include your NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero), that is essential for everything from signing a lease to opening a bank account and working.

To apply for the Residence Certificate, you will need:
-
Your passport or national ID
-
Proof of employment (work contract) or proof of sufficient financial resources if you're not working.
-
Health insurance (if not employed and covered under the Spanish social security system).
The Certificate is typically issued on the same day or within a few days of application, depending on the local Foreigners' Office or police station processing times.
